Course Overview:  This course is designed for students who have no prior knowledge or experience playing the guitar.  We will only use acoustic guitars in class.  Instruction is provided in the following: posture, hand position, tuning, reading standard notation, introduction to chord playing, strumming and accompanying.

 I. Expectations and Attendance
Students are expected to arrive before the late bell and should begin setting up on arrival.
Class will begin after an appropriate time for set up and daily maintenance(attendance, announcements, etc.)
Students arriving after class has started will be subject to the school attendance policies. 

II. Instruments and Music
Students are given a guitar and book to work with every day.  Students are expected to keep the instruments in good working order.  If a student damages an instrument or book, they are responsible for replacing the book or instrument and/or for the cost of repairs.
If a student wishes to bring in their personal guitar, they may do so and store it in the music room, but the music department is not responsible for any damage that may occur. 
A pencil and agenda are required for class every day.

III.  Class Etiquette
Students are to use class time to work toward their assigned tests and quizzes.     They should be respectful of others practicing and working.
Students are expected to be actively working/practicing for 74 minutes of the 84 minute block. 
No talking or disruptive behavior will be permitted.
No food or beverages are allowed in the band room.

Grading Policy

Grades will be calculated using total points earned on summative assessments. These assessments will include a variety of both in- and out-of class assignments.

THS Behavior Matrix will be used weekly or bi-weekly to assess students’ classroom etiquette, preparedness and engagement.
