FITNESS COURSE DESCRIPTION

GRADE 11/12

TOLLAND HIGH SCHOOL

 

A student at Tolland High School has the opportunity to take three elective courses once they have finished their Physical Education requirements.  The Fitness class is an elective that focuses on individual growth and understanding of fitness.  A student receives one credit for this elective.  This course has the same consideration as other academic courses in determining honor roll.

The Fitness class will offer an opportunity for students to develop their individual growth through a range of different exercises. Throughout the course you will learn how to develop a work out program, try different types of workouts and differentiate between positive and negative aspects of popular diets, routines and ideas.

A variety of Fitness components offered:


  • Interval training
  • Circuit training
  • High Intensity Training (H.I.T.)
  • Plyometrics
  • Stability Balls
  • Medicine Balls
  • Balance Boards
  • Resistance Bands
  • Agility Ladders and Hurdles
  • Military-style workouts
  • Crossfit/ P-90 X/ Insanity
  • Pilates and Yoga
  • Olympic Lifts

The grading criteria for Fitness are as follows:

Warm-up 10%
Change of Clothes 10%
Folders/Recordings 10%
Fitness 40%
Bi-Weekly Projects/ Workout Video Project 20%
Equipment Clean-up/
Observation 10%

Please report any incidents that result in equipment being damaged or broken. Make note of equipment prior to use to ensure safety and accountability.

 Locker Room procedures:

  • Be in the locker room by the time the bell rings (please refer to handbook for tardy policy)
  • LOCK UP ALL VALUABLES (cell phones, iPods, purses, etc…)
  • Keep the locker room neat- throw away any garbage!
  • Leave ALL BOOKS in the locker room. (It is not homework time)
  • Cell phones SHOULD NOT be brought into the gymnasium or Fitness room areas. (They will be confiscated)

Make Up Classes:

ALL ABSENCES from class must be made up after school on Tuesdays. If a class is not made up it will go in the gradebook as a zero. Special arrangements can be made to make up a class if a Tuesday does not work. It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to arrange this with the teacher.
