Student arrives on time to class, ready to start before the bell.

Classroom Etiquette:

Common courtesy and respect for each other are always the rule.  Students are responsible for maintaining neat and clean desks and floors. Raise hand to ask/answer questions.  Do not interrupt when others are speaking.  Sign out materials/tools that are borrowed are return to the proper location.

Engagement:

All students are expected to be active participants in activities, whether an individual activity, a group activity or whole class activity.  Answers and asks questions; contributes to group discussion, Completes and corrects all assignments on time.

These behaviors will be assessed twice a quarter using the school wide Behavioral Expectations Matrix

GRADING POLICY

Grading:  A point system is used for grading all work.  Points for different assignments will vary according to the length and level of difficulty.  Students will have the opportunity to earn points in a variety of ways and will fall into two categories:

Summative Assessment – points earned which are reflected in the gradebook.

Formative Assessment – impacts overall performance and, therefore, affects your performance on a Summative Assessment (points earned).

A student’s grade is calculated by totaling the points earned for the quarter, and dividing by the total possible points.

Academic Practice: This is skill practice that is done in class or sent home as practice. This falls into the Formative Assessment category (not graded). This should be completed to maintain or improve student performance on any Summative Assessment. Practice is important for the understanding and further exploration of concepts we have discussed.  Some will be completed in class and some will be completed outside class.  Academic practice, which is assigned daily, must be completed before the next day and kept in the 3-ring binder.  You are responsible for self-checking your work and answers and fixing mistakes.  You should come to class daily ready to ask (or answer) any questions from the previous day’s assignment. Be sure your name, the date, assignment number, and details of the assignment (section number, page number and problem numbers) appear on the top of each assignment. Each problem must show the original problem and all work. If you are absent you are still responsible for all missed practice assignments.

Exams:  Students will take a midterm and a final exam.  The two grades are combined to make the exam grade, which is 20% of the overall course average.  Each quarter counts for 40% of the overall course average.  The exam grades do not affect either quarter grade, only the overall course average.

Academic Integrity:  Tolland High School is committed to academic integrity.  Academic dishonesty is a serious offense and carries serious consequences.  Academic dishonesty, including but not limited to plagiarism, cheating, and presenting someone else’s work as one’s own, will result in a grade of zero for the assignment and a referral to building administration.

Absences:  If you are absent you are responsible for all missed notes, material, and assignments.  Prompt completion of makeup work is critical.  It is the student’s responsibility to obtain the missed assignments and turn them in on promptly, as well as, scheduling a time to make up any missed Summative assessment. Students are responsible for obtaining assignments in advance when they know that they will be absent (e.g. field trips).

Extra Help: Extra help is available after school. You must schedule a time to meet prior to the after school session.  It is expected that the student has participated in class and has attempted the academic practice problems, and comes to the extra-help session with specific questions.   Please, don’t hesitate to ask questions in class, and don’t wait until the last minute for help!
