Course Requirements: Come to class prepared everyday with the following:

-Pen or pencil

-Three ring binder OR Notebook & Folder

-School laptop (everyday)

Class Expectations: In this class students are expected to bring a positive attitude everyday. Students will also be asked to work responsibly in the lab area. Students are required to work individually, with a partner, and in small groups when necessary.

Grading: Your learning will be assessed in a variety of ways in this class. Your grade will be based on summative tests, quizzes, labs, and projects. Formative assessments will also be given to prepare you, but will not be graded. Formative assessment activities may include participation in class discussions, worksheets, review activities, etc. Formative assessments will be graded for accuracy, but will not affect a students overall score in the course. Formative assessments are to be taken seriously, as they will allow students to gauge their understanding of current material, and indicate performance on summative assessments.

Worksheets 10-20 points, Quizzes 10-20 points, Labs and Engineering reports 100 points (2 per unit), Projects points vary, Unit Exams 40-50 points

I don’t give grades- you earn them! Your academic grade is calculated using a point system. Each assignment will be out of a certain number of points and your semester grade is calculated as follows:

45% -First Quarter

45% -Second Quarter

10% -Final Exam

The Nest: The nest is a perfect place to show off your academic success, growth, and progression throughout a course, a semester, the school year, and even your time here at THS. We will have several assignments that showcase school wide rubrics (Problem Solving and Technology) that are great contributions to your nest. These assignments include but are not limited to: lab reports, engineering reports, and research based projects and assignments.

Late Work: No late work will be accepted. I give ample time in class for work to be completed on time. If you need extra time you should reach out to me individually and extensions may be given on a case by case basis. Extensions will not be granted for summative assignments if you are missing any formative assignments.

Academic Integrity: As a student in this class you are expected to exhibit academic integrity and honesty. Any instance of plagiarism and/or cheating will result in a zero on that assignment, in addition to severe disciplinary actions.

Extra Help: Student success is my top priority. I ask that if a student needs to stay for extra help they notify me 24 hours in advance. I am available after school until 2:15, upon request.

Cell Phone Use: Students are not permitted to use cell phones in the classroom, unless given permission by me. Everyday upon entry into class you will place your phone in the cell phone cady in your designated spot. Cell phones can be a great learning tool in the classroom. There will be times that I ask you to use your phone for different activities. However, if you are caught using your cell phone when not instructed to do so for first time offenders you will be asked to put your cell phone on my desk until the end of class. Second time offenders will have to pick up their cell phone from the office at the end of the day. The third time a parent/guardian will come pick up your cell phone/ administration will become involved.

Tardy Policy: It is school policy that students should arrive to class on time. If you are late to class you must have a pass. If a student does not show a pass they will be marked as tardy in powerschool. Consequences for tardies are as follows: TU1: 3 tardies-warning/email home, 6 tardies-teacher detention, 9 tardies: office referral. TU2: 1 tardy-warning/teacher detention, 2nd tardy-office referral.

All TU3 tardies will be handled by admin.

Absent Policy: If a student is absent from school and missing class, YOU are responsible for getting any make up work from me upon your return. You must return all the make-up work to me in a reasonable amount of time (2 days for every day absent upon your return).. This includes any labs missed-which may require you to stay after school.
