Discipline Plan

I have developed a classroom discipline plan which affords every student guidance in making good decisions about his or her behavior and thus an opportunity to learn in a positive, nurturing classroom environment. Every student deserves the most positive educational climate possible for his or her growth, and I know that together we will make a difference in the process. The plan below outlines my classroom rules, positive rewards and consequences for appropriate and inappropriate behavior.

Rules:

  1. Be Accountable (prepared with assignments, materials and agenda, remains in assigned area, being on time to class)
  2. Use Appropriate Appearance and Decorum (display appropriate dress and hygiene, speak with appropriate language and tone, restrict joking and fooling around to appropriate times, projects a positive role model)
  3. Maintain Positive Peer Interactions (interact positively with peers, no teasing, provoking, threatening behaviors, help others, give encouragement, no feeding-in to negative behaviors)
  4. Maintain Positive Staff Interactions (follow staff directions, be polite/respectful, accept staff feedback appropriately)
  5. Complete Class work (stay on task despite distractions, demonstrate effort in work, complete reasonable amount of work)

To encourage students to follow rules, I will recognize appropriate behavior with praise, rewards, positive notes, PRIDE passes, and phone calls home.

However, if a student chooses to break a rule, the following steps will be taken:

  1. Warning
  2. 5 minutes working away from the group
  3. 10 minutes working away from the group, written entry in behavior journal
  4. Call parents
  5. Teacher detention
  6. Administrative intervention/referral
