Health & Physical Education Grade 9

Health- Grade 9

 Welcome! As a freshman in PE9 you are required to take Health for one whole quarter. This means that we will be in the classroom learning how health affects our lives.  The class will consist of discussions, group projects, worksheets/ essays/homework, guest speakers, presentations and cooperative activities. I hope you will gain the knowledge to become a healthier, happier, and more productive person.

 Topics that will be covered are:

  • Nutrition
  • Bullying
  • Decision Making
  • Goal Setting
  • Stress and Illness
  • Mental Health
  • Coping Skills
  • Healthy Relationships
  • Reproduction
  • STD’s & AIDS
  • Drugs and Alcohol
  • First Aid and Safety

 Also, in Health you are required to do a Self-Nutritional Analysis in the form of a Power Point and present it to the class.  This is a graduation requirement that must be completed and passed. Plenty of time in class will be given to work on this project throughout the quarter. More information will be handed out about this specific project.

  Grading Criteria:

 Homework 25%

Group Work 20%

Quizzes 15%

Nutrition Project 30%

Class Participation 10%

 Classroom Procedures:

 Ipods and cell phones are NOT ALLOWED in class. First offense is a warning, second offense they will be confiscated. Third offense a referral will be written.

 Beverage and food items are NOT ALLOWED in class.

 Please go to your lockers before class. Have all your stuff with you.

 Bathroom passes will be limited.

You need to show respect to all of your classmates. Please refrain from using any foul language, making derogatory remarks or name-calling.

 When discussing certain topics please respect other opinions. Also, do not mention specific names when giving examples.
