  • Students are expected to come to class prepared, on time, and ready to learn. When the bell rings, you should already be seated with your work on your desk open to the assignment.
  • Each day you should bring the following with you to class: a separate 3-ring math binder, pencil, a scientific or graphing calculator, and an active brain.
  • Each day as you arrive, you should put your cell phone in the bin up frontput your earbuds and smartwatches away, and grab your calculator or mini white board/marker/eraser if you need it.
  • Students are responsible for maintaining neat and clean desks and floors. Detentions will be given to anyone found writing on or defacing school property. Please leave any bags or backpacks in your locker. All Tolland High School and Math Department policies will be followed.

Academic Practice

  • Each assignment must include your name, the date, the assignment number (ex: “Unit 1 #4), and the details of the assignment (section number, page number, and problem numbers).
  • Homework will be checked daily for completion and then collected on the quiz/test day that corresponds to the assignment. It will be graded summatively, for both completion and accuracy, when it is collected.
  • Students are responsible for self-checking their work and fixing all mistakes (with a colored pen or marker). Not only should the answers be corrected, if necessary, but the proper work must also be shown and correctly lead to the correct final answers. By the time you turn in the assignments, you will have had an opportunity to ask questions in class, during Academic Support, or after school.
  • Any assignment that is incomplete, not labeled properly, or not corrected completely will not receive full credit. No work will be accepted after the quiz/test day that corresponds to an assignment.

Assessments (Tests/Quizzes)

  • Students will be notified of tests in advance and are usually at the end of each chapter. Quizzes will typically be announced in advance and may cover any material covered in class or in the text.
  • All assessments are kept in a student file. They are available for review upon request but may not be removed from the classroom.

Grades

  • A point system is used for grading all work.Points for activities vary according to length and level of difficulty.Your quarter grade is calculated by totaling your points and dividing by the total possible points.
  • Your grade for the course will be determined as follows:

                First Quarter Average                                                  45%

                Second Quarter Average                                             45%

                Midterm/Final Exam                                                   10%

  • Participation in class is highly encouraged. Math is not a spectator sport!! Try your best 100% of the time and NEVER leave an answer blank.

    Absences

  • If you are absent from class, you are responsible for all missed notes, materials and assignments. You will be given two days make-up time for each day absent. When returning from an absence it is your responsibility to obtain missed work and make arrangements for a make-up test or quiz.
  • If no new material is presented during your absence, you must take any missed test or quiz on the day of your return. You are responsible for obtaining assignments in advance when you know that you will be absent (e.g. field trips, appointments).

Academic Integrity

  • Tolland High School is committed to academic integrity. Academic dishonesty is a serious offense and carries serious consequences. Academic dishonesty, including but not limited to plagiarism, cheating, and presenting someone else's work as one's own, will result in a grade of zero for the assignment and a referral to building administration.
